Internet Marketing Basics

Local Promotion and Offline Marketing

Most online entrepreneurs forget all about the power of local advertising and marketing to the “offline” world. Yet selling to your immediate geographic area (and beyond) is very easy when compared to what it takes to advertise online. Offline advertising, in addition, has the benefit of building trust with customers, as it washes away most of the “fly-by-night” feelings attached to most Internet businesses.

Advertising in newspapers, classifieds, on bus benches, with press releases, on business cards, and so forth can have a huge positive impact on your business.

Offline marketing, you will find, will be least served by purchasing classified ads in major local newspapers. Smaller publications which are more narrowly focused towards your intended audience (niche) are a much better way to spend your advertising dollars.

Print advertising on billboards, fliers, and so forth can also be very effective. In addition, there are a myriad of other ways you can utilize offline advertising to promote your business that can be extremely effective. Many of them can be used in a co-op with other businesses: things like parade floats, movie theater slide shows, bus benches, etc.

Advertising online and off is a very time-consuming affair, but is the heart of your success in business. Without marketing, you will fail…guaranteed. Doing marketing correctly right from the start will ensure you will not waste funds on unnecessary advertising and that your campaigns will have the greatest amount of exposure and response for the dollars you spend. Good luck!
